How to Recover Your Data from a Broken Tablet

Your tablet is likely to become something that you use daily, useful for saving everything from your latest digital artwork to your saved images. That’s why, if your tablet breaks for any reason, it can be cause for panic.

The good news is that investing in highly-rated options like the PicassoTab is some protection in itself against this happening, though accidents can still occur.

Luckily, even a broken screen doesn’t need to mean losing all-important files if you simply set about saving the situation as follows –

Scenario 1 - Your Touch Screen is Broken:  

If you are able to power up the tablet, can see the display screen but not able to operate it using your fingers:

  • Charge and power up your tablet.
  • Insert a micro-SD card into your tablet
  • Connect a USB mouse to the tablet 
Using this setup, you should then be able to operate your tablet and backup all files to your micro-SD card

     

    Scenario 2 - Your Touch Screen and Display Screen are Broken:  

    If your tablet boots up but you can not see anything on the screen and also can not operate it using your fingers:

    • Charge and power up your tablet.
    • Insert a micro-SD card into your tablet
    • Connect a USB mouse to your tablet 
    • Connect your tablet to your TV via an HDMI cable
    Using this setup, you should then be able to operate your tablet with the mouse (viewing it on the TV) and backup all files to your micro-SD card

       

      Or if you just want to wipe out the data before sending it off for repair:

      Hard Reset Your tablet

      Note: Hard reset will wipe all data so backup crucial files first

      1. Remove your tablet’s SD card (if using)
      2. Power down the tablet using the power button
      3. Press and hold the POWER and VOLUME UP buttons together until the tablet starts 
      4. Choose the Recovery Mode Form from the options menu (navigate using volume and power buttons)
      5. Choose wipe data/factory reset
      6. On the next screen select yes
      7. Select reboot on the last screen

      Even when the worst happens, these straightforward tips can save you from a whole load of lost data, and all of the worry that would inevitably come along with it!
